![]() After all selected students were placed within the ensembles, an appropriately sized list of alternates was selected from the master proficiency list for each instrument and voice part. All selected students and alternates were notified by mail. Selection committees were convened to sort through the proficiency lists and compile a statewide master proficiency list for each instrument and voice part. Each selected musician was assigned to a position in one of the eight All-State performing ensembles. Auditioning students were placed on a rank-ordered proficiency list and the NYSSMA zone representative forwarded applications to the appropriate All-State Chairperson. Katie and Jan were two of over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of New York in 15 regional zones who began the rigorous audition process last spring with a solo performance evaluated by a NYSSMA Certified All-State adjudicator. Jan Gong was selected as an alternate for the All-State Orchestra and Katie Herbst was selected for the All-State Mixed Chorus. The 2010 NYSSMA All-State Winter Conference will take place from December 2nd – 5th in Rochester, New York.
